It’s not fancy at Ikkyu and there aren’t all that many seats, but if you like the authentic flavors of Japan, Ikkyu won’t disappoint.

Located in the same shopping center as Tucson’s best international market (who knew there were so many types of soy sauce?), Ikkyu manages to be both an incredible bargain and a place where you can get superbly-delicious sushi, noodle dishes and more. Conveniently enough, each item on the menu suggests a style of beer that would pair well. You can pick a local brew or try something from one of America’s innovative craft breweries, pairing your choice with a delicious burger or salad. Tucson’s a great place to get a beer and on the northwest side in Oro Valley, it’s hard to beat the incredible selection at gastropub, Noble Hops. Harvest combines a relaxed, charming atmosphere with an attention to detail and a passion for local, fresh ingredients (everything is made from scratch, from the bread to the juices poured in their cocktails) to provide an all-around excellent dining experience.

It feels like the perfect neighborhood restaurant, a place - and pardon theĬliché - where everyone might know your name. There’s something comforting about the atmosphere at Harvest - which also has a second location at River and Craycroft, if you happen to be further east. Skip the chains and try one of these establishments - with options including Bosnian meat-fests and gastropubs. Once people started heading northwest to get their views of Pusch Ridge, delicious dining options followed quickly.
